Sauber-Mercedes C9 1989

The Sauber C9 is a joint cooperation between the Sauber team most of us now know from Formula one and Mercedes-Benz. Up until 1988 Mercedes was just involved as an engine supplier with a mighty V8, but the following year stepped in to further aid Sauber in their aim for victory. The Sauber C9 was the return of the Silver Arrows to La Sarthe, and was up against the dominant and faster Jaguar XJR -9s from last year and a couple Porsche 962c’s. The Sauber proved to be the most reliable car, as the Jaguars suffered tire and gearbox issues, leading the silver #63 car to win the race.
