- I present to you my Lego-fication of the 2018 Volkswagen ID.R, the recordholder for fastest EV around the Nürburgring, and several other aspects. This lego model is an accurate 1:30 scale representation of the real vehicle (1.29,2 to be exact). It measures over 10 studs wide, and 23 studs long. Some details include the battery in the cockpit next to the driver, the massive rear wing, the enormous side skirts, and the slick profile of the monocoque. All parts in medium azure can be chosen in any colour.
- The Volkswagen ID.R is the current recordholder of fastest EV around the famous Green Hell with a time of 6:05.336. It also holds other records, such as the Goodwood FOS hillclimb. The car in real life is 2350mm wide and 5219mm long, and with 979mm in height, it sits very low. Despite a 500 kW Lithium-ion battery, good for 671 hp, it weighs <1100 kg. It has a maximum top speed of 270 km/h, mainly limited by the nuge downforce and aero package, and can accerate from 0-100km/h in 2.25 seconds. The car features 3 main colour schemes:
gray: Pikes peak record climb
blue-black: Nürburg record time/ demo car
red-black: Tianmen road / heaven’s gate record hill climb.
Stability of the rear wing:
This model has the largest ever wing for a speed champions car in existance. And with that, and lego in general, weight forms a potential issue. The model itself holds the wing up fine, but if you slam the car to the ground, or bump into it, the rear wing tends to sagg down. If desired, I designed a simply solution so the wing will stay upright no matter what, all necessary pieces are included in the parts list. Only a simple conversion is required:
