Audi R18 e-tron QUATTRO #2 2014

In 2014 Audi came with a renewed version of the R18 model due to the new regulation changes concerning efficiency and energy, powered by a newly V6 turbo diesel engine, aided by an electric drivetrain as well. The R18 looked nothing like the previous R18 models and was up against the re-entry of Porsche with the 919 Hybrid and the Toyota TS030. It was an intense race, with a chaotic wet opening, with multiple crashes. In the end the #2 car with drivers André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer and Marcel Fässler. It would be the last of many victories for Audi at Le Mans, as in 2015 Porsche tasted its succes of the 919 Hybrid, and in 2016 Audi announced to retire the following year.
That however is not the end of the chapter, as Audi has officially announced to make a return to the long distance racing scene in 2023, with a new LMDH project, jointed with Porsche.
